The World Between Us

Inspired by a shared moment with my eight-year-old daughter, Ellenora, The World Between Us explores our intimate connection with the natural world. Lying on the grass, playing with bubbles, we watched the flowers and leaves dance in the breeze and became part of a landscape that seemed to extend beyond us. It was a moment of seeing the world from a different perspective, immersed in the beauty of nature. Painted from memory and imagination, the work draws on botanical forms and the visual language of landscape, geology and organic systems. Through a dialogue between abstraction and figuration, fragments of flowers, grasses and imagined organic structures emerge, dissolve, blurring the boundary between the familiar and the unseen. By imagining the landscape from beneath the flowers and grass, the work invites a different perspective on the world around us.

Through layered forms and intuitive mark-making, the painting reflects on the beauty found in looking closely, revealing a world of hidden structures, movement and interconnectedness. It considers our place within these living systems and the quiet realisation that we are not separate from nature, but a small part of something much larger. The World Between Us captures a fleeting moment of connection.
